Chickens4If you are considering keeping Poultry in your garden or on the allotment, Ex commercial laying hens looking for a new home may be an option. They are next to no money (small donations in many cases) and will still be decent layers. As well as having egg production, you will be giving a home to hens that have had a pretty miserable existence for the past 18 months. GrowMad have brought together the best ex-commercial hen re-homing sites. We've listed all the suppliers alphabetically on the left, with our recommendations to the right.

Check them out - Grow On, You'd be Mad not to!

British Hen Welfare Trust (BHWT)

BHWT

We find caring homes for thousands of commercial laying hens destined for slaughter each year and have hen collection points all over the country. To find the one nearest to you just visit our site.

It is an Animal & Plant Health Agency requirement that all hens are traceable and therefore we require full contact details of re-homers. We do not make a charge for the hens or their adoption, but we ask for a donation to cover what we pay the farmers, vet fees, fuel, phone bills, trailers, equipment and feed as well as supporting our ongoing and very successful campaign work for a free-range future.

FSFH FINAL BOLD RGB 300x300

We are a not for profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to rehoming hens from the commercial sector. Our aim is to ensure as many people as possible are aware of the plight of the commercial hen, and demonstrate that there are alternatives to early slaughter. Our commitment is to rehome as many hens as we can into suitable homes.
