At Hollywater Hens we have a variety of organically reared hybrid and pure breed chickens for sale as well as turkeys and ducks.

The Burford Brown
The Burford Brown has been around for a long time and is often described as Britain’s favourite hen, laying the most fabulous dark brown eggs, with large yellow yolks.

Despite the fact that our Burford Browns are not hybrids, they are prolific layers of amazing thick-shelled eggs, with a dense texture, and a flavour that is out of this world.

The breeding hens at Lower Brockaly run in large grass pens and live in dry airy houses with plenty of room. From time to time I rotate sheep around the pens to keep the grass short and thick. Most of the nest boxes are plastic to help reduce red mite, but nevertheless, a continual program of red mite control is carried out. All young stock are reared with access to extensive runs giving them plenty of grass and allowing them to forage naturally.

Please phone in advance if you want to come to buy or look at the laying hens. We open for Poultry Sales by appointment Monday to Saturday (closed Sundays). You can call us on 0782 118 7160. Please bring something to transport your birds home in (cardboard boxes, pet carriers and poultry crates are all good), alternatively, you can purchase pet carrier boxes for £2.50 each. These will hold up to 3 hens.
